Utah so far...

We are here in Utah, just enjoying our time with family...sorry blogging has been sparse.
We are just having too much fun!

Millie was great on the flight.  The first flight, I had a row all to myself.  Heaven.  I couldn't have done the whole three hours with people sitting next to us.  She took a short nap, played with the seatbelt, we read books, ate cookies, and played with toys.  She did really well.

Now the second flight...good thing it was only a little over an hour.  It was a smaller jet, so there wasn't as much leg room or room in general.  It was stuffed full of people.  We sat in the window seat and good thing she slept for part of it.  The last 30 minutes, she was getting a little restless.  She wanted to get down and crawl around.  She did great though.  I get so nervous to fly.

And on a sidenote...a big sidenote,
Millie is standing by herself!
She has stood for a few seconds before, but now it's for quite a long time.
She loves it and thinks she is so big!
My baby is not so much a baby anymore.

We are looking forward to a fun filled weekend of family, fireworks, food, and the fun festivities that come with the fourth of July.

We are loving our summer!

Update on Millie's Eye

For those who are wondering...here is an update (in a nutshell) on Millie's eye.

(isn't she cute?? I love her!)

We finally got her into the doctor here.  There are only a handful, and of course, we wanted the best care (as any parent would) for our Millie...so we waited and waited.

Got her in.

He answered lots of unanswered questions, although there is still some unknown.

He evaluated her.
Her pressure was up.  37!!!  It's supposed to be below 20.  We are now putting drops in her eye twice a day.  Since the first appointment we've had her pressure checked again, 15-17.  The drops are working! No surgery.

She has a condition called PHPV.  It stands for Persistent Hyperplastic Primary Vitreous.  Which is where the space at the back of the eye, behind the lens, is normally filled with a clear jelly.  This jelly is called the vitreous.  Millie was born with a hazy, scarred vitreous.

She also has optic nerve hypoplasia.  Her optic nerve didn't fully develop.  At this time, we (meaning the doctor) don't know how developed it is.  Time will tell.

They don't know what caused it.  It is just a birth defect.  Her eye just didn't grow normally in those first few weeks of development.

Now, she wears a contact, because her lens in her eye is gone.  This contact takes place of the lens.  Did you ever know that babies could wear contacts?  Neither did we.  Do we hate changing it?  YES!  Are we good at changing it everyday?  No.  But we are trying to get better.  It is complete torture to us, as parents, and to Millie as well.  So we try to take it out and clean it once a week.  Then we'll move it to every three days and hopefully we'll get so good at taking it out and putting it in that it will become part of our daily and nightly routine.  Baby steps.  Baby steps.

We will continue to have her pressure checked.  And hopefully it stays down.  If not, she will have to get surgery...we are hoping and praying that it continues to do well.  And so far it has!

We are still patching Millie's good eye.  (is that horrible I call it the 'good' eye and the 'bad' eye?)  This strengthens the defective eye so that it will follow with the other eye and give her the best possible vision for her.  She doesn't like it, and will pull of the patch.  We are getting really good at distracting her!

Can she see? Yes, she can see perfectly.  Just with one eye, and possibly with the other...just not like as you and I see with both eyes.  But hey, she doesn't know any different.  So how she sees is how you and I see.  She does run into walls, tables, chairs, etc. quite often, but who knows if that is due to her eye or just because.

So that's the update.

I always tell myself...it could be worse!  We are so grateful and blessed!

Date Night: Just Him and Me!

Saturday night, Cason and I went on a hot date.
It's been a LONG time since it was just the two of us...

We got a babysitter, and went to a White Caps baseball game (the local team here).

It was Japanese night, so during the 7th inning stretch they passed out balloons.
Everyone blew them up and let them go at the same time.
Quite an event. :)

We had so much fun!  Felt like we were dating again.
I really recommend going out with just your honey one night.  sans kids.  It felt good!
(Even though we do love to have our Millie bug tag along!)

Looking forward to date night again in the near future...

All That Matters

Last night Cason and I went on a run along the prettiest trail by our house.
We took turns pushing the stroller while Millie slept peacefully.

It was so green, beautiful and smelled so good!
I realized last night, that it really doesn't matter where you live for the most part.
(although, we don't mind living here...)
As long as you are with the ones you love and you are doing the things that you enjoy.

Cason enjoys his job.

I love being a mom.

Millie is happy and growing.

and we all love each other.

And that's all that matters.
(besides a few more things)

Recipe: NY Times Chocolate Chip Cookies

I haven't found a chocolate chip cookie recipe that I absolutely die over...and I've tried a lot!
Except for on the back of Trader Joe's chocolate chip's bag, there is a yummy recipe that I love...
but Trader Joe's is about 1.5 hours away, so that recipe with those chocolate chips happens about every six months.
I "pinned" this recipe the other day via pinterest, and gave it a try.
First off, the dough.  I could have eaten the whole bowl!
Second, the cookies are perfectly sweet...I think it's the coarse salt that adds just the touch.
Give it a try!  It won't dissappoint!
Plus, NY Times picked this recipe as their favorite chocolate chip cookie.

New York Times Chocolate Chip Cookies
2 cups minus 2 tablespoons cake flour
1 2/3 cups bread flour
*I only used all purpose flour for my recipe.
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons coarse salt
2 1/2 sticks (1 1/4 cups) unsalted butter
1 1/4 cups light brown sugar
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/4 pounds chocolate chips (I just eyeballed)

Sift flours, baking soda, baking powder and salt into a bowl and set aside.
Using a mixer, cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy – about 5 minutes. Add eggs. Stir in vanilla.
Reduce to low speed and add dry ingredients slowly, mixing until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
Refrigerate dough for 24-36 hours.  (I didn't refrigerate)
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350.
Drop spoonfuls of dough onto baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes.

Any other chocolate chip cookie recipes out there I should try?

Mama!

Even though Cason is her favorite...

She did say "mama!" first! :)

She now says, "mama", "dada", "baba", "nana"
....who knows if she even knows what they mean.
I like to think she knows!

Weekender: Chicago

Over the weekend, our little family drove the 3.5 hours to Chicago to enjoy a little getaway.  We loved walking around the city and hanging out all together.

On Friday, we shopped on Magnificent Mile-and let me tell you, it sure was magnificent! You name the store, they had it!  A girls dream! Right?!  Except for, what is with the style?? Anyone else struggling like me?  I don't love it right now!  shirts cut in half (ug)!  That night we ate some Chicago style pizza at Giordanos and hung out on the town.

We went to the American Girl store and Millie loved it!
she would just stare at the dolls and smile.  So cute!

Saturday, we at breakfast at a place called Yolk...it blew us away!  So good!  Walked around Navy Pier, hung out and then finished it off with a little Mexican dinner at Xoco.  Oh my heavens!  TO.DIE.FOR.!  We obviously love food, and that was really the highlight of the trip. :)

This is her favorite way to ride in her stroller..
Someone told us we could get a ticket for not having her buckled in? true?

It was nice to get away for a weekend with just us three!

Ten Months Old

Oh, my sweet little Millie.  Where has the time gone?

10 months? Really?!  I can't believe it!
My Millie girl has changed more in these last few months than she has in her short little life.
She is busy busy busy!  Always moving, crawling, standing, cruising, eating, clapping, waving...whatever it is she is moving constantly!  Lots of bonks, fingers stuck in drawers, and tears these past few months.  Nothing a little hug, kiss and paci can't fix!

She definitely keeps us busy and very entertained.

We're now those parents that you can't even sit and have a conversation with because Millie is crawling out of our hands, and we are trying to keep her from falling...you know...those parents?
But we love it, nonetheless.

Millie is a pro crawler now.
It's funny, because I felt like right when I hit publish on her nine month post, I looked over and she was crawling perfectly.  How'd that happen?  Everyone has told me that once they start crawling you will wish they never learned how.  I disagree.  I have loved that she can crawl and get around.  That way if she needs something, I don't have to be right there to get it.  But then again, I am sad that my baby girl doesn't need me as much.  Bittersweet.  She crawls and crawls and crawls.  By the end of the day, her poor little chubby knees are bright red.  But it's been great and she seems a lot happier now that she is mobile.

She pulls herself up, walks along furniture and cruises from furniture piece to furniture piece.
She holds on with one hand, and will also balance herself with her tummy so she can use both hands.  I love it.  I wouldn't be surprised if she is walking within the next couple months.

She still loves food!
She is starting to not be so into her baby food jars.  I don't blame her!  They are pretty bland.  She wants the yummy human food.  She pretty much eats whatever we eat-which is soooo much easier, but it can be alot messier!  But I love a messy baby.  Her favorites right now are crystal light, yogurt, cheddar cheese cut into little cubes, turkey, ham, noodles, anything that makes a crunchy sound, toast, blueberries, and oranges.

She is quite the singer!
I always sing a tune and say "la, la, la, la, la. la, la, la, la, la, la." (I think it's elmo?)  And she sings right along with me.  It is very monotone, but it is so cute!  It's my favorite!

She's obsessed with the vacuum.
At first she was terrified of it, but I'd put her at one end of the hall and vacuum the other end and she would just sit and watch.  Every time I vacuum, she is intrigued by it.  She sits in a chair and her eyes go back and forth watching my every move.  When it's off, she loves to touch it and is discovering that it won't hurt her.  She gets very excited when I get it out.  Sometimes I'll just vacuum to kill some time because I know she'll just sit in one place and watch.

She likes the blow dryer, my makeup brushes, my toothbrush, my contact case, Cason's deodorant bottle, hair brushes, combs, my straightener, hairspray bottles...anything that isn't hers that's in the bathroom she loves to play with.  It makes getting ready a little easier.  I just plop her on the counter facing the mirror and she sits and plays with all the things above while I do my hair.

She loves paper.
Why?
She sees a magazine or paper on the floor she crawls so fast over to it before I snatch it up and munches away.  Why do babies like it? It's not sweet and it doesn't taste good.  So why?  Now we have to be a little more careful with what we leave on the ground.

Millie loves to Skype.
We talked to my sister Julianne the other day on Skype and Millie just stared at her with the biggest smile on her face the whole entire time.  She tried to grab her and would touch the screen only to find out she is too far away.  She loves Julianne already!

She likes to clap.
She claps out of the blue quite often and when we say 'yay!' She'll clap...sometimes.
I have realized that with babies it's on their own time clock.  If the don't want to do something, they won't do it.

She loves to scream...again.
The other day in the grocery store we were in the produce section.  She was content playing with a toy I brought for her.  All of a sudden she starts to scream.  It's a happy scream.  And she's smiling while she does it, but it is so loud.  People from across the grocery store stared at me.  She did it again and again and again.  It was embarrassing but cute!

She hates to have her hair done.
And just recently she has learned to pull out her headbands and bows.  Uh oh.  We might have a little Miss Picky on our hands.  She has become more and more opinionated as the months have gone on.

She loves to go outside.
Every time I get her out of the car she gets so excited and waves her arms and kicks her legs.  Oh, the little things in life.

She has four little teeth and one is on its way out.
Two front bottom teeth, two fangs on the top and one of her front top middle teeth are starting to pop through.

She smiles when you smile at her and is a happy little girl...most of the time.
We love her and have loved to watch her every move!

Just munchin on some Cheerio's.  Loved that furrowed brow!

She's obsessed with my camera...I can't take a picture of her without chasing after me trying to grab it.
So...the cap will have to do!

Happy 10 months Millie!

Kissing Cousins

The other day my mom called me and said that it was time to update my blog.  I told her that I just did two days ago...I guess that's not enough!

Everyday since then, I get texts from her saying,
"I'm waiting for an update."
"Still waiting..."

So...this ones for you mom.

When Wyatt was here, Millie was never bored.  These two did everything together.

They read books with Aunt Sar together,

they snuggled in their jammies together,

they even ate yummy pizza Downtown with their moms and Cason together.

They went to Costco together, shared the same cart, and enjoyed a little Diet Coke together.

They were married on the swings together,

and they cruised the town in their Mustang together.

They enjoyed three seconds of bubbles together,
but, of course, Millie crawled away.

They went on walks in their twin strollers together,

they watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse together,

and believe it or not, they played and fought over toys together!
Enjoy this video!
excuse the talking...

Lollipop Lollipop

Oh Lolli Lolli Lolli!

This little peanut had her first whole lollipop (dum dum) the other day!
At her eye doctor they give lollipops after the appointment.
I grabbed one and was ready to eat it on the way home in the car.

I forgot about it (which is not like me) and a few days later, pulled it out to give to Millie.
After all, she was the one that deserved it!

She loved it!
She would put it in and out of her mouth.
Suck on the opposite end to see if it was as good.
and drooled all down that cute little chubby belly.

Oh the little things in life...
