Space Saver or Highchair

All you moms out there, I need some help.

We are ready to retire the Bumbo, and are now looking for a highchair.

Which do you prefer or recommend?
Just a normal high chair or a space saver that sits on one of your kitchen chairs?

  1. Highchair. We went back and forth too and I am soo glad we went with highchair. We chose a dark wood one that fits the decor in our house so it just looks like another piece of furniture. But he goes it in all the time. When I am cooking, doing the dishes, or cleaning i'll put him in it and pull him up to where I am. He loves it. I guess you technically could do that with the space saver, but the highchair is not as low and more convenient for me :)

  2. totally a SPACE SAVER!! really no question, I would hate a highchair only because they take up so much space that really is not necessary, especially if you have 4 chairs at your table. Plus Paislee likes to be eating with us at the table!! Now that she is older, we take off her tray and she just eats at the table with us, so now its just like a booster seat!

  3. We thought about getting the space saving one, but ended up getting two from Ikea. I'm so glad we did! They don't take up that much room and they're at our level. Plus, we got rid of our table when we moved to Salt Lake and use our coffee table for now, so the space saving ones wouldn't have made any sense for us. :)

  4. we have a space saving one...and we love it!! {looks like so far it's a toss-up between all the comments, so good luck deciding! haha}

seriously, though, it has been great for us. max loves being right up at the table with us too, so it works wonderfully!

  5. eh. it's a tossup! we like the high chair because we roll it back and forth between the kitchen (which has benches) and the dining room (chairs). We also have room for it - so if space is pretty limited you might want the space saver. Also, it depends on how many chairs you have and if you can spare one for a high chair (like when you have guests over for dinner, etc.)

    Good luck deciding :)

  6. I say get one with wheels. I like the space saver for going to Grandma's. I have a wood high chair and I'm always pulling it around my kitchen so William can see me while I'm doing dishes, etc. I would say a high chair is definitely worth it.

  7. I had the Prima Pappa from Peg Perego for my first two kiddos and when the third came along #2 wasn't done with the high chair, plus he made it a complete mess. I got a new one and I LOVE it! It is the Boon high chair and it's the best. Having done both space saver and regular I prefer the regular, I think it's because my kids get so big so fast. The Boon is great because the chair is all one piece so food doesn't get stuck anywhere, so easy to wipe down, two removable trays, and the list goes on. If you don't have a lot of space get one of those things that hooks to the kitchen table, Brooke had one of those and loved it. She's growing too fast, slow that cute thing down!!
    Luvs!!

  8. Space saver! But they have some that hook onto your kitchen table I wish we would have got. So small and you could take it anywhere!

  9. I know there are a lot that like the space saver. I can see the benefit of saving space and all but I like my high chair for several reasons:

If company comes over, I still have a chair at my table and my little one can be pulled up to the table in the high chair.

Safety: With the space saver, the child can push on the table with his/her feet and tip the chair over. (This is why I didn't get the space saver in the first place. It happened to my sister's friend. Poor little baby)

I like my high chair still! I have a 3 year old and we do crafts and create messes in the chair. They usually have a bigger tray.

I like to wheel my high chair around from the kitchen to the dining room. It's easier than dragging a kitchen chair around.

I can't really say one or the other is better since I don't have experience with the space saver, but I still love my high chair. It's adjustable in height too!

    Just my 2 cents.

  10. We got the space saver, and loved it. It worked awesome, only problem was when people came and we didn't have enough chairs. usually kids were to busy to eat anyway.
IKEA has such cute little high chairs...I kind of want one of those next...or the chairs that hook to tables or counter tops.

  11. We love our space saving chair. It has been nice because when Reese was dependent on eating in a high chair we could take it with us (like when we'd babysit for a while) and I'd either sit it on the floor or I could strap it to other people's chairs.

Whatever you get, make sure you get one with a wipeable seat cover. Some have covers that are to "cloth-like" and they don't wipe clean very easily.

  12. I prefer the space saver, although I got one that was a lot more simple. If I did a highchair I would do a very simple one, only because every.single.highchair I have ever seen is disgusting with food inbedded and crusted one.

I got one that adjusts height, is barely visible and lets me push in the chair to the table. It has a tray for when they are younger but it can be taken off and now ada just uses it basically as a booster seat. And, the big bonus...I can wipe it all down easily and there are no fabric crevices. (I know, I'm kind of OCD/germaphobe, lol).
