3 weeks

Our little papoose is 3 weeks old today.

Just like most newborns-
she still eats, sleeps, cries, stares at us, loves lights, looks around and grins.

We love our little Mills.

Even with that little double chin!

Yes, the stick-up hair is all natural!
I comb it over, slightly to the front.
When it dries it sticks straight up.
But I love it...gives it a little style.

All tuckered out.

Have I told you yet how fast time flies??

Time flies!
Can't believe she is 3 weeks old already.

We don't want her to grow up.

Due Date

Well...today was my due date.

Boy am I glad I've already had my baby for 11 days.

Crazy that it's been 11 days!

Seems like just yesterday I pushed with all my might...

but it also seems like it's been forever.

Cason, Millie and I went to Salt Creek and hung out on the grass today.

It was a beautiful day.

A little windy, but it felt soo good to get out and soak up the sun.

Millie was good.

Except, I hate to admit it, but sometimes nursing is hard.

And sometimes it's easier.

It kinda just depends.

Often times I just want to give her a bottle of formula so she'll sleep through the night.

But I'm not giving up.

Slowly we're getting better at it.

Today was a good day!

new mom favorites

Every mom has her favorites.
Here are a few of my favorite things for baby that everyone needs as a mom to a newborn baby.

My dear friend told me about these so I ordered some.
They have been a lifesaver!
They are just like the hospital ones, but cuter.

SwaddleDesigns swaddle blanket.
These are the best swaddling blankets out there.  And they are lightweight too.
Baby Magic...love the smell!
And Johnson's head-to-toe body wash...love the smell too!

Little Giraffe Luxe blanket.
These are the softest things!
Anytime we wrap Millie in it she falls right to sleep and always takes the best naps while wrapped in it.

Bebe Au Lait burp cloths.
Very absorbent!  And cute too!

And I can't let a post go by without posting a few pictures of my baby girl.

five days old.

one week old.

What are a few of your favorite newborn items?

Two

Right now I've got two sleeping babies.

One who is handsome...
and one who is oh so cute.

After I am done getting somewhat ready for the day, I usually walk in to find Cason on the floor and Millie on the couch.

It's funny how things change.

8.13.2010

she sleeps...

she cries when she's hungry...

and even rolls on her side when she sleeps...uh oh!

she prefers it this way.

We just stare at her all day long, talk to her, sing songs, and watch everything she does.

Although these days are exhausting
Millie is our world and we love her!

My mom was here for a little while, and it was definitely not long enough!
She was the biggest help and we are so glad she came.
I tear up thinking about her being gone, but she has a family at home to take care of too. :)
Aren't moms the greatest??

Millie: Birth Story

August 9th, 2010 was a very memorable day.  One I will never forget.

Our first child and daughter was born into this world.

Around my 34 week appointment, I asked the doctor what the likelihood of me having this baby on August 9th, 2010 was.  He said, well as long as you are 11 days till your due date I can induce you.
I won't go more than 11 days.
He said that if I wanted this date, I would need to schedule it right away because it would be a very popular date.

So, I did.
Not thinking that I would really go through with it, but in the back of my mind I did want her to be born that day.  At my 36 week appointment my doctor checked me and I was 80% effaced, but not dilated at all.  He said effacing is very subjective.
I told him I wasn't sure about the 9th of August yet, but that I wanted to wait until my next appointment to see what progress I had made.

My 38 week appointment rolled around and still nothing.  Dr. Stadler told me that most likely I would go over my due date and they would probably have to induce me.
He said that with the many deliveries he has done, the women who don't show much progress usually go over or have to be induced anyway.  I thought that if I had to be induced, might as well do it now instead of wait till I was a few days overdue and uncomfortable.
Cason and I both had a hard time with the decision for fear that something might happen, or that I would end up having a c-section.

On Sunday, August 8th, 2010 around 9am Cason and I went to the hospital.  They did a few tests and checked the baby.
They put a foley balloon catheter into my cervix to help me start dilating.
They sent me home and told us to come back Monday morning around 7am.  We went home and just laid around all Sunday.

I was in so much pain.

I would have to say it was more painful than labor!
I was having consistent contractions from the catheter, and my body was getting ready for labor.
We gathered our belongings for the next day and then went to pick my mom up from the airport that night.

The next morning, after a long sleepless night, we went in and got all situated.
(me the morning of the delivery. 38 weeks 3 days.)

They hooked me up to the machines to monitor the baby and started things.
Dr. Stadler came in around 8:15am and broke my water and took the catheter out.  It felt so good to have that thing out!
I was already dilated to a 5!
They hooked me up to the IV and started the pitocin.

The morning was a long one of sucking Jolly Ranchers, chatting with Cason, my mom, and Beth and watching hours of TV with a few naps here and there.

My contractions started getting worse around noon and I was dilated to a 6.  So I asked for the epidural.
The epidural is what I was the most worried about.
I had read a blog, some time back, and the mother was paralyzed from it.  To this day I can't find that blog, but I was worried.
I have to say, that should have been the least of my worries!  It was nothing!
I felt nothing!
He did such a great job.  Immediately my left leg went limp.  I couldn't even move it.
My right leg was numb but I could still move it.  It felt so strange.

From then on we just hung out, chatted with the nurse, and waited and waited.
My sweet nurse Tina.

Around 6:30pm the nurse came in and said that I was dilated to a 9.5!
She let the doctor know and he came in around 7pm.

They got everything ready and things began.  During the pushing process we had to stop for about 20 minutes to let some of the numbness wear off.  I could feel some of the pain!  But it wasn't as bad as the Sunday before.

at 8:02 pm Millie girl was born!

I didn't feel the greatest.  I had a slight fever and wasn't able to hold my baby for a little while.
I was starving, but tried to eat and would just throw it up.
But finally after a little bit I was able to hold her.
It was quite an amazing thing!

Baby girl getting a bath.  Look at all that hair!

We love her!
